May 10 every year is celebrated as World Lupus Day. Lupus is a type of chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation in several parts of the body, from the brain, kidneys, skin to joints. Lupus can actually be experienced by anyone, but this disease is more often suffered by women. Lupus is often difficult to diagnose because the symptoms vary and are similar to other diseases.
Under normal conditions, the immune system will protect the body from infection or injury. However, when someone experiences lupus, the immune system attacks healthy cells, tissues and organs in the body.
Some precautions that can be taken include:
1. Wash your hands with soap and running water
2. Use the mask correctly
3. Maintain distance, avoid crowds and limit physical mobility
4. Adopt a healthy lifestyle, namely: eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, good stress management.
Through this commemoration of World Lupus Day, let us make it a moment to remove the stigma against Lupus and increase understanding about this condition. Let's make Lupus visible!
