Hello data friends, did you know that National Book Day is celebrated every May 17?
Today also coincides with National Library Day.
History of National Book Day The date was set on May 17 because May 17, 1980 was the founding date of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. The idea for National Book Day was initiated by the Minister of National Education under President Megawati Soekarnoputri, Abdul Malik Fadjar. The aim is to increase reading interest and literacy in Indonesia.
Based on data obtained from the official website of the UNHAN RI Library, UNESCO stated that Indonesia's interest in reading is only 0.001 percent. This means that only 1 in 1000 Indonesians regularly read books. Concern about this issue then led Abdul Malik Fadjar as Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia at that time to establish National Book Day. The hope is that it can at least remind the nation's future generations to love books and start reading.
In 2023, the number of publications owned by the Batang Regency Regional Library will reach 59,580 books. So, judging from reading interest, Batang Regency's reading hobby level (TGM) reached 66.33 points. This figure means that the level of reading enthusiasm among the people of Batang Regency is in the high category.
