Hi data friends, did you know that every August 14th is commemorated as Scout Day? The 2024 Scout Day commemoration carries the theme 'Scouts with the Soul of Pancasila Protecting the Republic of Indonesia'. The theme was also launched in the 63rd National Scout Day Logo.
Judging from its history, the scouting movement has been around for a long time. In fact, the scouting movement has existed since the Dutch colonial era. In 1912, the scouting movement existed under the name Nederlandsche Padvinders Organisatie (NPO). Then, in 1916 the NPO changed to Nederlands Indische Padvinders Vereeniging (NIVP).
This then inspired the Indonesian people and finally gave rise to an independent scouting movement. After that, Mangkunegara VII pioneered a scouting movement called Javaansche Padvinders Organisatie in Surakarta. Amidst the many scouting organizations, the Indonesian Scout Association (Perkindo), the Indonesian Scout Association (Ipindo), the Indonesian Girl Scouts Organization Brotherhood (Poppindo), and the Indonesian Girls Scouts (PKPI) emerged.
On March 9, 1961, President Soekarno began to gather figures from the Indonesian scouting movement with the aim of uniting the entire scouting movement. Then, on August 14, 1961, President Soekarno held the National Leadership Council (Mapinas) to inaugurate the Scout movement.
Based on the report of the Research and Development Center (Puslitbang) of the National Scout Movement, the number of Young Members of the Scout Movement from all groups, starting from Siaga, Penggalang, Penegak and Pandega, male and female in 2020 was 24.12 million people.
