Monday (20/5), BPS Batang Regency held a Ceremony to Commemorate the 116th National Awakening Day in 2024. National Awakening Day is the anniversary of the birth of Boedi Oetomo (hereinafter written as BUDI UTOMO according to the Improved Spelling) which is the first youth organization in Indonesia. The Budi Utomo organization was founded by Dr Sutomo together with STOVIA (School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen) students, namely Gunawan Mangunkusumo and Suraji and initiated by Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo.
When the organization was founded on May 20, 1908, if Dr. Sutomo is still 19 years old. So it is a very young and very productive age group that is classified as Generation Z, if you quote the classification from William H. Frey analysis of Census Bureau Population Estimates (25 June, 2020). It can be seen that Budi Utomo's generation Z has noble dreams or hidden ideals which are the forerunners of independent Indonesia.
Reflecting on Budi Utomo's generation Z (the creation of young people) who produced a national product, namely the powerful idea of the rise of the Indonesian nation which continues to be remembered, then what about Indonesia's current generation Z?
From Population Projection data from the 2020 Population Census, the population of Batang Regency in 2024 will be 838.19 thousand, most of which are dominated by the Generation Z category (8-23 years) 23.57% and Millennials (24-39 years) 25.26% So around 48.83% are residents who are very productive both physically and with great brilliant ideas. This is a large amount of capital, of course it will be a huge loss if it is not used for positive and productive activities. This group is a golden age group that is developing very rapidly.
In 2045 or Golden Indonesia (100 years of Independent Indonesia), the population of Batang Regency is projected to reach 961.03 thousand people. The demographic bonus phenomenon could be a major disaster if it is not prepared carefully, both by the government, private sector and society, especially building human quality from an early age and for the golden ages (Generation Z and Millennials).
With the 116th anniversary of National Awakening in 2024, of course there is a need to raise a spirit of optimism. This revival must be accompanied by accurate information, data and statistics. By mastering data, the nation and its people will become strong and will not lose direction in taking effective steps to face and resolve existing problems, including anticipating them in the future.
